Food Industry Alliance of NYS Responds to Governor Hochul’s 2022 State of the State Address
All of the following may be attributed to Mike Durant, President/CEO of the Food Industry Alliance of New York State, Inc.
“Governor Hochul’s State of the State address was refreshing and displayed a sense of optimism during these continual difficult times. The Governor’s vision included recognition of the delicate balance between New York’s economy and the needs of employers and our workforce.
While we await further details, we are however, deeply concerned that the Governor’s producer responsibility proposal will disproportionately impact the retail food industry. It is critically important that a radical change to the recycling infrastructure in our state be collaborative and not place the full redemption responsibility on our retail food stores.
New York’s retail food industry has proudly and diligently stood on the front lines and served communities across our state throughout the public health crisis and will continue to do so. Our hope is that Albany will work to boost our industry and provide the support needed to continue to serve consumers throughout the state.
We look forward to further details when Governor Hochul unveils her Executive Budget in a few weeks.”
