Food Industry Alliance of NYS Responds to Governor Hochul’s 2024 State of the State Address

“We applaud Governor Hochul’s focus and commitment to combat retail theft and offer protections for our employees and safety for consumers. We look forward to working with her administration in the coming weeks to help address this significant concern for our industry.
While we are also appreciative of the renewed focus on the affordability of New York, we are concerned that initiatives mentioned today will further increase costs on employers. It is critical that the high cost of business is considered, and we are hopeful that measures focused on reducing financial burdens impacting the retail food industry will be part of the Executive Budget presentation next week.
We look forward to reviewing the proposals in full detail in the coming days and working with the administration and lawmakers this legislative session. We remain hopeful that Albany will recognize the tremendous importance the retail food industry has on our communities and New York’s economy.”
